FAAN Says Abuja Airport Will Be Shut Down From Saturday to Monday 30 Hours, Not 3 Days

Abuja airport will be shut down for 30 hours, the Federal Airports
Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said.
According to Premium Times, the announcement was made on July 4, 2014,
Friday, in order to clear the air on some reports circulating in the
media that the airport will be shut down for 3 days.

In a message released today the spokesperson for the aviation agencies
Yakubu Dati said:
"The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja will be closed for
maintenance work for 30hrs (12 midnight on Saturday, July 5, to reopen
6am on Monday, July 7.

Kindly note that the closure is for 30 hours only and NOT three days.
Inconveniences are highly regretted."
It has been learnt that the temporary closure will be made to allow
for maintenance of the runway.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Ozodinma, made
this known while briefing journalists after the meeting with President
Goodluck Jonathan.

The official also explained that it is a widespread practice all over
the world to shut down airports for attendance.
