National Power Training Institute Of Nigeria -(NAPTIN) - NOUN TECHNICAL SKILLS ACQUISITION PROGRAMME (NNTSAP) Calls for Applicant to Apply Now

INTRODUCTION:

Given the huge need for the non-graduate technical categories of staff (Technicians, Artisans and Craftsmen) in the Power Sector, NAPTIN in keeping to its mandate of providing adequate manpower has designed training curricula for the following technical categories of staff for the power sector:

1. LINESMEN;
2. CABLE JOINTERS;
3. ELECTRICAL FITTERS; and
4. DISTRIBUTION SUB-STATION OPERATORS (DSOs)

STRUCTURE OF COURSES
1.Lines Maintenance: Modules I,II,& III with field attachments
2. Cable Jointing: Modules I,II, & III with field attachments
3. Electrical Fitters Course: Modules I & II with field attachments
4. Distribution Sub-station Operations: Modules I, II, & III with field attachments

TRAINING IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY
In implementing these trainings NAPTIN is collaborating with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). The NOUN Study Centres located in each State of the Federation, including the FCT, will be used to host the programmes. This decentralization will make the cost of the training to be more affordable and also convenient for the participants as they will not need to travel long distances to the training Centres.

The syllabuses/classroom instructions will also be integrated with some soft skills like Basic Communication, Report writing and Work Ethics and computer Appreciation in order to make the trainees more productive. NAPTIN will however be responsible for the overall coordination and delivery of the technical courses/skills in the field based on the modular structure.

NAPTIN and NOUN are jointly responsible for the monitoring, evaluation and certification of the programmes. NAPTIN will use its RTCs and the machinery of NOUN to effectively facilitate the publicity nationwide.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT & PROCEDURE

The Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Electrical/Electronic or NCE technical (Electrical/Electronic) is the basic admission requirement for all the Technicians' training (Linesmen, Cable jointers, Electrical Fitters and Dist. Sub-station Operators).

Candidates will be required to apply on line through the NAPTIN Portal.

DURATION OF COURSES
The Courses can be run on normal and intensive (Short term) plans depending on the need.
The normal durations for the courses are as follows:

Electrical Fitters – 6months
• 2 modules class training of 2 weeks each;
• 2 modules field training for 10 weeks each.
Linesmen – 1 year duration
• 3 modules class training of 3 weeks each;
• 3 modules field training of 12 weeks each.
Cable Jointers – 1 year duration
• 3 modules class training of 3 weeks each;
• 3 modules field training of 12 weeks each.
Dist. Substation Operators – 1 year
• 3 modules class training of 3 weeks each;
• 3 modules field training of 12 weeks each.
