All INEC ADHOC Staff should Read this to Know the Valid Ballots and Rejected Ballots in Elections

VALID BALLOTS

A ballot is valid as long as the choice of the voter is clear.

The following are clear choices:
• If a voter places his thumb print in the box opposite the party of his choice
• If a voter places his thumb print on the logo of the party of his choice and leaves the box opposite the party logo empty
• If some portion of a voter's thumb print falls on the party logo and the rest falls in the box opposite the party logo
• If a voter places two thumb prints in the same box that is opposite the party of his choice
• If a voter places two thumb prints on the logo of the party of his choice
• If an insignificant part of the voters thumb print crosses the border line of the box provided in such a way that the choice of the voter is still clear

REJECTED BALLOTS

A ballot is rejected as long as the choice of the voter is unclear.

The following are unclear choices:
∙If a voter places his thumb print such that half of it falls in the box of one party and the other half is in the box of the next party in line on the ballot paper∙
. If a voter places his thumb print such that half of it falls on the logo of one party and the other half is on the logo of the next party in line on the ballot paper∙
.If the voter does not place any thumb print at all.
∙If a voter places his thumb prints on two or more boxes opposite the party logos∙
.If a voter places his thumb prints on two or more party logos∙
. If the ballot contains any writing or mark that identifies the voter∙
. If the ballot is thumb printed for a party not contesting the election∙
. If the back of the ballot paper has not been stamped and signed by the Presiding Officer
