NSA, Service Chiefs Visit Yobe

Barely a day after visiting Borno State, the national security adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno, service chiefs as well as other senior military officers yesterday stormed Damaturu, Yobe State capital to reassess military operations in the fight against insurgency in the state.

Major General Mongunn, who led the security delegation, paid a courtesy call on the state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, at the Government House Damaturu the state capital on Saturday.

He said that the purpose of their visit to the state was to assess the operational situation on ground with the view to effecting the required changes at the strategic operation and tactical level in the state and North- east in general He said, “Let me use this opportunity to tell the people of Yobe that President Muhammadu Buhari has told us that he wants this Boko Haram insurgency to end in three months time.”

According to him, “President Buhari has given the time frame of which we were all awere of the new development bothering on his commitment to ending Boko Haram within a short period of time”, monguno said.

He said that the president directed all service chiefs to carry out the mission meaningfully well as he has promised Nigerians that he will deal with the insurgency, adding that they do not have any choice but to end Boko Haram.

“However, we are here to visit some of the areas to see the troops, familiarise ourselves with their situation in Yobe and then embark on a rapid compaign on counter-insurgency.

The national security adviser commended the state governor, who has demonstrated extreme commitment to fishing out members of the sect.

He urged the people of the state to give maximum support and useful information to the security agencies in order to crush Boko Haram within a short period of time maintaining that soon, Boko Haram will be history.
