Catholic Bishops Advise Buhari Against Legalising Gay Marriage.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, political leaders, legislators and judges to resist all pressures and temptation to legalise gay marriage in Nigeria.

The Catholic bishops who expressed fear over the legalisation of gay marriage in the United State of America, following concerns by the current trend of same-sex-marriage, advised President Buhari to protect Nigerians from the growing and dangerous influence of lesbianism, gay, bisexual and transgender propaganda.

President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama, who made this known yesterday on behalf of the bishops in a statement, described gay marriage as sad, unjust and a lamentable situation based largely upon a distorted perception of natural law, the will of God and human nature.

According to Kaigama, Canada, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Ireland and most recently, United States of America are some of the countries that have gone down the path, and are nations which undeniably have cultural, social and economic influence upon many African nations including Nigeria.

“Mozambique has not yet accepted same-sex-marriage, instead they have struck down their legal ban on sodomy, thereby opening the door to the festering of the homosexual culture/sub-culture within their society. Our people daily interact with the Western nations mentioned above at different levels.

“These countries also generate a lot of the media content consumed in our country and continent as well as much of the educational materials used in our schools,” Kaigama noted.
